How autonomous do you want to be?

Autonomy For Defined Spaces

Trying to understand what autonomy means can be difficult in today's evolving market. Many competitors claim full autonomy yet manually drive up to 30% on a given course (the hard parts). At Perrone Robotics we define autonomy as "We'll do all of the driving" - that's our stated goal and the mark we hit!

Defined spaces means any well-known area such as a military base, airport, apartment complex, or neighborhood. For us, this means we have set up a course in that area, we know the key rules or trouble spots, and we have mitigated any problem areas so that our vehicles can drive themselves safely.

We are the autonomous vehicle experts, working on this problem since 2003. With over 30 different vehicle types automated, and over 40,000 miles driven autonomously - we have the experience you need for your project.

An extraordinary part of our solution is our patented TONY® (TO Navigate You) kit that when applied to existing vehicles, makes them autonomous. This means we start with road-safe vehicles that can be easily maintained and operated by groups already familiar with them. This also means that we can make a vehicle of any kind autonomous to meet your requirements.

Our TONY vehicles come equipped with our full-stack autonomous engine MAX® that has everything needed to operate in on and off-street environments. Sensor integration, perception, built-in set of maneuvers for the street, and interfaces to controls. It's all you need - very little, if any, development is needed for a vehicle to make it's way around your target location given a less complex ODD.

Operational Design Domain (ODD)

Each ODD level builds on the prior ODD level.

Each ODD level builds on the prior ODD level.

“ODD” you say? An ODD is the Operational Design Domain which is a way to specify the environment where a given autonomous vehicle can operate. ODDs are important to define because depending on the ODD you may need different sensors or different vehicles, and likely different autonomous functionality. Some AVs can only operate in a given set of ODDs. However PRI's extensive and patented autonomous engine means that we can handle just about anything you want to throw at us. You can pick the right vehicle, and we'll pick the right setup to enable you to set up the autonomous solution you're looking for. As well, there are additional options that can be applied to the setup for a given ODD to solve your autonomy need.

Options For Your Non-Driving.

We break out these levels and options so that our customers can select just what they need. Autonomy is an emerging technology and at this point the sensors and equipment required to provide all these functions can be costly. This leads to a discussion about what infrastructure can be used to help simplify a given ODD or to make it more reliable. As noted earlier, the best autonomous solutions are those that have well-understood domains so that any trouble spots can be addressed. Trouble spots? By this we mean areas that make it hard to drive as a person. Blind corners, crossing higher-speed roads, 5-way intersections, etc. We can already address a long list of standard environments such as rotaries, yield turns (right or left), 4-way stops, driving at highway speeds, traffic lights, bumper to bumper traffic, and so on. We are here to help you select the right configuration with our team of autonomous experts.
